Doctor of Education Degree Programs in School Executive Leadership (SELP) and Community College Executive Leadership (CCEL)


ADMISSIONS  

SCHOOL EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP PROGRAM (SELP)

Program participants must presently be, or recently have been, a practicing school administrator, supervisor, or teacher leader at any level, and must currently hold, or will hold by the starting date of the SELP cohort, a Type 75 General Administrative Endorsement. We particularly seek applications from those underrepresented in school administrative positions, such as members of underrepresented minority groups and women. For full consideration, all applications materials must be received by May 24. Applications received after the deadline will be considered if openings become available within the cohort.

The following materials are required:

• U of I Graduate College application and $60 application fee

NOTE: If you are already admitted to the Graduate College, please do not re-apply. You do however need to repetition and take the following steps:

  1. Fill out Graduate Student Petition (select "Re-entry"):

  2. Complete Graduate Student Re-entry Data Form:

  3. Sign the forms and obtain necessary signature from former advisor and department.
  4. Submit to EOL by the admissions deadline.

• Official copies of all undergraduate and graduate transcripts (Official copies are needed of all transcripts, regardless of whether or not you've already been admitted to the graduate college.)

Departmental Personal Information Form (NOTE: This form also requires the submission of a personal statement, minimum of 500 words)

• Personal Statement (minimum 500 words, explanation contained on departmental Personal Information Form)

• Resume

Three letters of reference (References should mail forms directly to the address listed below)

Admission to U of I graduate programs is highly competitive and, because the cohort is limited in size, some well-qualified applicants may not be admitted. A faculty committee will review all applications files. Those who meet the requirements of the Graduate College and department will completed a proctored writing sample and will participate in on-campus interviews, which will be used to determine which students will be admitted. RECOMMENDATION FOR CERTIFICATION

Please note that admission to the Educational Administration and Leadership program does not guarantee that a student will be recommended for certification. Recommendation for administrative certification will be determined through a separate college department, when coursework is complete. The state of Illinois requires two years of administrative experience before the superintendent’s endorsement can be attained.

A student who is currently enrolled in college study should not wait until the end of the semester or quarter to have transcripts sent. If the applicant is admitted, the Office of Admissions will request final transcripts.

Letters of reference directed to the department office should be requested at the earliest possible time. Missing transcripts and letters of reference are the main causes of incomplete applications.

Screening Process and Deadline
To be considered for admission to the program, prospective applicants must complete and return ALL information listed under Admission Requirements to the address provided.

Tuition and Fees
For the 2006-2007 academic year, the per-credit hour tuition cost is $388 per hour. The per-credit hour cost for the associated fees is $41 per hour. Students are also responsible for the cost of required textbooks, course packets, and any other course related costs. The cost for future courses is subject to moderate changes in accordance with the actions of the University of Illinois Board of Trustees.
