What is Quechua Online Distance Learning?
The Center for Latin American and Caribbean
Studies at the University of Illinois is pleased to announce the launching
of its web-based Quechua Online Distance Learning courses. The variety
offered is Ayacucho Quechua, a Southern Peruvian Quechua variety closely
related to the varieties spoken in Cuzco and Bolivia, and a standard for
Quechua writing. Since 1977, Quechua language courses have been offered
continuously at Illinois' Center of Latin American and Caribbean Studies.
The most widely spoken modern Native American language, Quechua is currently
spoken by 8-10 million people in Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and neighboring
countries. The instructor, Clodoaldo Soto, is a native speaker with over
a decade of award-winning teaching experience. He is a noted Quechua scholar
who has published highly regarded grammars and dictionaries.
